Zdeněk Lukeš – Women in Architecture
Architectural historian Zdeněk Lukeš presents women architects from the Renaissance to the Second World War in this instalment of his lecture series.
The talk, prepared in collaboration with Zdeněk Lukeš, explores the theme of women in architecture. The popular architecture commentator presents significant women architects from various epochs worldwide and in the Czech lands. He begins with the first pioneers in the field, then turns to designers from neighbouring countries who influenced Czech architects, and finally the Czech women architects of the interwar era and their work. Interwar trailblazers in a profession until then reserved exclusively for men include Milada Petříková-Pavlíková, the first Czech woman architect to graduate from what is now Czech Technical University (ČVUT) in 1921. Other outstanding women architects, designers, and urban planners will also be presented.
