Zdeněk Lukeš – Women in Architecture

Friday, 29 May 2026, 19:00
Ends: Friday, 29 May 2026, 21:30
Galerie umění

A talk from the series prepared in collaboration with renowned architectural historian Zdeněk Lukeš explores the theme of women in architecture. The popular architecture commentator presents significant women architects from various epochs worldwide and in the Czech lands, along with their buildings. He begins with the first pioneers in the field, then turns to designers from neighbouring countries who influenced Czech architects, and finally the Czech women architects of the interwar era and their work.

Interwar trailblazers in a profession until then reserved exclusively for men include Milada Petříková-Pavlíková, the first Czech woman architect to graduate from what is now Czech Technical University (ČVUT) in 1921. Other outstanding women architects, designers, and urban planners will also be presented.

The talk takes place on 29 May 2026 at 19:00 at the Karlovy Vary Art Gallery, Goethova stezka. Admission 100 CZK.
