Adit No. 1 in Jáchymov is an accessible 1950s exploration adit and a branch of Muzeum Sokolov. The underground route brings together three layers of the town's story: the older silver-mining tradition, post-war uranium extraction and the memory of political prisoners who worked in the surrounding mines under harsh conditions. Since 2019 the site has formed part of the UNESCO-listed Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region.
Inside the adit, visitors see mine passages, the Evangelist vein and a compact display of mining equipment. It is a short visit, but a serious one: the place works best if you read it both as mining heritage and as a memorial landscape.
Tours
Guided tours run seasonally, usually from Wednesday to Sunday in May, June, September and October, and daily in July and August. Standard tour starts are 10:00, 11:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00. The underground visit takes about 45 minutes.
Advance booking is sensible during the summer holidays and for larger, school or organised groups of more than 10 people. Current slots are handled through the Montanregion booking system.

Reduced or free admission should be requested in advance and proved with the relevant card. Payment on site is in cash; tour slots can also be selected through Montanregion.
Practical information
Arrive at least 15 minutes before the tour starts. Sturdy closed shoes are required underground, and children may enter from age 5 only with an adult. The entrance building, including the accessible toilet, is barrier-free; the underground route itself is not wheelchair accessible because of stairs, rails and changes in level.
For safety reasons the tour is not suitable for blind visitors. A printed guide is available for hearing-impaired visitors, but the route depends on spoken communication with the guide.
