Aeroklub Karlovy Vary operates from the Olšová Vrata airfield near the centre of Karlovy Vary and offers flight experiences for the public. From here, or by arrangement from Cheb, you can see the spa towns, the wooded edge of the Slavkov Forest and the Ohře valley from a very different angle: either in a powered aircraft or in the quiet lift of a glider.
Powered-aircraft flights
The club uses a Z 143 OKTUT aircraft with room for the pilot and three passengers. The usual base is the airfield in Cheb, while flights can also be arranged from Karlovy Vary Airport at Olšová Vrata. The minimum flight time is 15 minutes.

The flight price is agreed directly with the club. The 2022 price list used CZK 100 per minute, including VAT, for the whole aircraft, meaning up to three passenger seats. Flights can also be bought as a gift certificate.
Glider flights
For a quieter kind of aviation, the club offers passenger flights in a non-motorised glider. The appeal is the stillness in the air: once the tow or winch launch is over, you hear mostly wind around the fuselage.
Two formats are available:
- Winch launch - a steep climb to roughly 300 m above the ground, followed by a short circuit above Jesenice reservoir, usually 3-5 minutes
- Aerotow - the glider is towed to about 900 m and then glides freely back to the airfield; total flight time is around 20-30 minutes
Glider flights usually take place at weekends, most often on Saturdays, depending on the weather. Aerotow flights should be arranged by phone in advance.
Practical information
Prices for both powered and glider flights are agreed individually with the dispatcher. All flights depend on suitable weather, pilot availability and current airfield operations. The powered aircraft takes up to three passengers; a glider takes one passenger next to the pilot.
