Karlovy Vary Observatory: Space Flights
Hvězdárna · Hvězdárna
Karlovy Vary Observatory turns a visit into a small space mission. In the observatory's cosmodrome, visitors book a flight in a spacecraft simulator, take the role of astronaut or mission-control crew, and complete pilot tasks during a guided programme.
The experience is designed for curious children, families and adults who want more than a classic look through a telescope. It is playful, hands-on and best treated as a reserved programme rather than a drop-in exhibition.
Space flights
The single-seat Sojuz-Bee 1 cabin is inspired by the first human orbital flights around Earth. One astronaut sits in the spacecraft while companions follow the whole mission from the control centre and can help with pilot tasks. The flight takes about 40-60 minutes and is suitable for children from age 7 and adults.
The newer Prométheus spacecraft takes a crew of two or three astronauts, with additional companions again working from mission control. Because the manoeuvres are more complex, Prométheus is recommended for experienced crews from age 15 and adults. For a first mission, Sojuz-Bee is the better starting point.
Booking and admission
Booking is required through the observatory reservation page, where available launch times for both spacecraft are shown.
Detailed prices and current programmes are on the Karlovy Vary Observatory website. Payment is possible on site in cash in CZK or by QR payment. The programme accepts a 25% discount with the Karlovy VARY REGION CARD.
Practical information
