Kočičárna Rocks

Kočičárna is a small but distinct crag at the edge of Horní Žďár near Ostrov. On the map of the Ostrov climbing areas it stands between Hroznětín, Merklín and Jáchymov. For walkers it is a modest woodland rock; for climbers it is a short, clear and quickly reached gneiss venue with compact, sometimes bouldery lines.

What to See

Lezec describes the crag as a smaller wall with steeper sections and bolt protection. ČHS lists around thirteen routes, mostly sport climbing in lower to middle grades. The printed guide separates a main sector from a smaller practice or children-friendly sector, making it a practical stop for a short session or technique practice.

Practical Information

Access starts at the end of Horní Žďár. From the tourist shelter, follow the path along the forest towards Jáchymov; after roughly 200 metres it reaches a clearing and the rock is visible on the slope. A smaller subsidiary rock lies a little farther on. Park and move considerately at the village edge and in the forest.
