Königsmühle Abandoned Settlement

Königsmühle, also known in Czech as Králův mlýn, is an abandoned mountain settlement in a valley near Háj in Loučná pod Klínovcem. Where several houses and mills once stood, visitors now find stone ruins, crosses, interpretation points and a quiet Ore Mountains landscape. After 1945 the original inhabitants had to leave and the settlement gradually disappeared from everyday life, which is why the valley now feels like a powerful place of landscape memory.

Visits

Königsmühle is an open-air walking destination rather than a staffed attraction. The best approach is on foot from Háj near Loučná pod Klínovcem; the official Loučná page links to a map route to the settlement. Expect a slow walk among building remains and mountain scenery, not a conventional exhibition. The place is also known for recurring Königsmühle land-art meetings.

Admission

There is no listed admission fee for an ordinary visit outside organized events. If you plan to attend the land-art festival or another gathering, check konigsmuhle.cz for the current year, because transport, visitor rules and any ticketing can change.

Practical Information

This is a natural ruin site, so wear shoes suitable for uneven and sometimes wet terrain and do not count on visitor facilities in the valley. Festival organizers ask visitors to respect the protected nature of the valley: keep to marked paths, do not light fires, do not bathe in the stream, do not camp in the valley, and do not climb on the ruin walls. The ruins are entered at your own risk and there are no fixed opening hours.
