Kotvina Rocks
Kotvina · Kotvina, 431 51 Klášterec nad Ohří
Kotvina is a medium-sized rock area on the left bank of the Ohře below the ruin of Šumburk, between Klášterec nad Ohří and Perštejn. The walls drop towards the river in vertical and sometimes overhanging faces, and their southern exposure gives them a different feel from the damper forest crags higher in the Krušné hory. The place combines river scenery, a ruined-castle backdrop and climbing tradition.
What to See
Lezec lists more than seventy routes and a maximum height of about 35 metres. The rock is fine-grained two-mica orthogneiss, in places blocky and slabby. Climbing follows edges, sloping ledges, corners and straight walls. Harder routes tend to have fixed protection, while easier or less travelled lines may need natural gear.
Practical Information
Access is possible by marked trail from Perštejn or Klášterec nad Ohří railway stations, or by road along the left bank. Guides warn about loose blocks, so a helmet, route-finding skill and respect for the natural setting are important. This is not a simple family stroll; it is best treated as a rock destination for experienced visitors and climbers.
