Nová Role Swimming Area

Nová Role Swimming Area is a natural 20-hectare water body close to the town of Nová Role, about 10 km southwest of Karlovy Vary. Surrounded by forested slopes of the Ore Mountains foothills, it offers a simple summer alternative to indoor pools and aquaparks: open water, a sandy shore, fresh air and enough space for a slow day outside.

The place changes with the weather and the season, which is part of its character. On hot days it feels like a local beach; at quieter times it is more of a lakeside walking and resting spot.

Swimming

The sandy beach and gradual entry into the water make the swimming area approachable for families with children as well as recreational swimmers. The shallower zone near the shore is useful for children, while deeper parts suit stronger swimmers.

There is no lifeguard or medical service on site. Swimming is at your own risk, and adults should keep close watch over children near the water.

Windsurfing and Water Sports

The broad 20-hectare surface gives Nová Role unusually good conditions for windsurfing in the Karlovy Vary Region. Even moderate wind can be enough for a pleasant ride on open inland water. Bring your own equipment, as regular rental is not part of the standard facilities.

Fishing

The quiet water and natural surroundings also attract recreational anglers. Before fishing, make sure you have a valid fishing licence and the correct permit for this water body. Current rules are best checked with the local fishing association or tourist information.

Campsite and Facilities

A campsite by the swimming area provides a base for longer stays. Basic facilities, seating, bins and seasonal refreshments make it practical for a full-day summer trip. The campsite also turns Nová Role into an easy stop for walkers and cyclists moving through the western Ore Mountains area.

Walking and Cycling Nearby

Nová Role sits in a landscape with many local walking and cycling routes. The surrounding woods are popular for relaxed hikes and mushroom picking in late summer and autumn, while cyclists can use both gentler road loops and forest tracks in the wider Karlovy Vary Region.

Practical Information

The swimming area is mainly used in the summer season, typically from June to the end of August, depending on weather and water temperature. Parking is available near the site, and buses connect Nová Role with Karlovy Vary.
