Pernink Forest Park
Lesopark Pernink · Meinlova, 362 36 Pernink
Pernink Forest Park is a 45-hectare green refuge above the village of Pernink in the Ore Mountains. It was first shaped in the interwar period, when the local beautification society turned the hillside woods into an ornamental park forest with alleys, managed greenery and resting places for residents and visitors. After the Second World War the park entered a long period of decline: population change, new ownership conditions and limited maintenance gradually blurred its park character. In 2011, a major restoration brought it back into dignified shape.
Nature Trail and Landscape Details
The heart of the renewed forest park is a nature trail with 13 stops. Sycamore maples, a characteristic tree of the mountain forests of the Ore Mountains, are the central theme. In autumn they are especially beautiful, with leaves turning vivid red and orange while the tall trunks give the paths a quiet, almost avenue-like feel. Information panels introduce the nature, history and wider Ore Mountains setting.
One of the most original features is the spiral mound, a playful garden composition inspired by the UNESCO-listed Flower Garden in Kroměříž. Planted with boxwood and shaped into a spiral, it is an elegant oddity you would not expect to find in a mountain forest park.
The restoration included the planting of more than 11,000 trees of different species. Forest paths and walkways were renewed, and the resting pavilion with its spring area was repaired.
Walks and Trips
The forest park is made for a calm walk or a family outing. A full visit to the 13-stop nature trail, spiral mound and resting places can take around 4 hours at an easy pace. The terrain is friendly, with paths suitable for older visitors and families with children.
The park is open year-round and admission is free. Summer brings shade and fresh mountain air; autumn is the most colourful season, when the sycamore maples light up the slopes.
