Miluščin Waterfall

Miluščin vodopád · Nové Hamry, 362 35 Nové Hamry

Miluščin Waterfall is one of the few naturally formed waterfalls in the Ore Mountains and one of the quieter natural surprises of the Karlovy Vary Region. It lies in the romantic valley of Bílý potok, a small mountain stream rising on the southeastern slope of Zaječí vrch at about 960 metres above sea level.

The waterfall is not high, but the setting gives it character. The stream drops over a natural rock threshold in two main cascades with a total height of about two metres, ending in a shallow pool edged with stones. About a hundred metres upstream, another smaller waterfall hides on the same brook.

The Waterfall and Valley

This is a place for slow attention rather than spectacle. Spruce and beech forest, wet moss, boulders and the sound of water against the rock walls create a pocket of Ore Mountains wilderness. In spring, when snow melts higher on the ridge, the cascades are strongest. In winter, icicles and frozen curtains can turn the little fall into a striking cold-weather scene.

In summer, the shallow pool below the fall is popular with families, especially children who like paddling among the stones. The water is clear and cold, and the ground can be slippery.

Routes

From Horní Blatná: about 7 km return, moderately demanding. Start at the car park in Horní Blatná and follow the red-marked hiking trail across Vlčiny and Vlčí hora. The route gives views of Horní Blatná and the surrounding hills, then returns the same way.

Loop from Pernink via Nové Hamry: about 11.6 km, medium difficulty. This longer variant starts in Pernink, climbs towards Perninský vrch and then follows forest roads down the Bílý potok valley. You can finish by train from Nové Hamry instead of walking the same route back. Fit hikers need about four to five hours; with rests, food and time by the stream, it can easily become a full-day outing.
