OFFROAD SAFARI – Guided Tours

OFFROAD SAFARI is a guide company based in Litvínov, focused on experiential trips through the mining, industrial and natural landscapes of north-west Bohemia. Since 2015 it has helped turn places usually hidden from individual travellers - brown-coal open-cast mines, spoil heaps, bunkers and reclaimed landscapes - into guided, context-rich journeys.

The tours run in small groups with a specialist guide and usually last about 6 hours, typically from 10:00 to 16:00. They are designed for families with children, older visitors, private groups and company teams. The starting point is the RICO complex at Sokolská 30 in Litvínov.

Most mining landscape and the ČSA open-cast mine

The flagship trip enters the landscape of one of the last major brown-coal open-cast mines in Czechia. Expect vast machines, raw industrial scale and the contrast between active extraction, spoil heaps and reclaimed lakes. The tour connects mining history with the future of a region being reshaped after coal.

In the footsteps of the Second World War

This historical expedition visits an authentic factory shelter at the RICO site, preserved Czechoslovak fortifications of types 36 and 37, labour camp no. 29 and places connected with wartime bombing. A night version is available for visitors who want a stronger atmosphere.

Ore Mountains - nature and forgotten places

This route shows the Ore Mountains away from the main resorts: empty ridges, vanished mountain villages, forests, sunny meadows and hidden viewpoints. The guide adds context on settlement history, nature and the region's water-management structures.

České středohoří and Czech garnet

A trip into the volcanic České středohoří brings broad views, steppe habitats and the chance to pan for real Czech garnets. Participants take a small memory home in a bottle.

Doupov region - an abandoned landscape

This expedition heads into the Doupov military area, revealing the deep Ohře River canyon, the Vintířov lapidarium and vanished villages in a landscape where decades of restricted access gave nature space to return.

Saxony - mining tradition and festive towns

Seasonal cross-border trips to Saxony, especially around Easter and Christmas, focus on mining traditions, small towns and the distinctive festive mood of the neighbouring region.

Private and company tours

OFFROAD SAFARI also prepares tailor-made trips, teambuilding programmes, quad-bike experiences and private use of a Second World War shelter.

Admission

Practical information

Most tours are physically easy and suitable for a broad age range, including families and seniors. Because access to some locations depends on guide arrangements and limited capacity, booking in advance is essential. Payment is available through GoPay with Visa or MasterCard.

Wear outdoor clothing that can handle dust, wind and changing weather. For mining and industrial landscapes, closed shoes are a better choice than sandals.
