Remains of St Nicholas Church Below Krudum

Zbytky kostela sv. Mikuláše pod Krudumem · u Hruškové, k. ú. Třídomí, 357 31 Horní Slavkov

The remains of St Nicholas Church below Krudum lie in the forests of the Slavkov Forest near Hrušková, in the cadastral area of Třídomí. For a long time the site belonged more to legend than to certain history: the vanished church was associated with miners, old routes and St Nicholas folklore. Archaeological research after 2002 confirmed that the foundations of a medieval sacred building really stood here.

What To See

The site now presents the stone foundations of a late Romanesque church with a rectangular nave and a narrower presbytery. The church is often linked with a mid-13th-century written reference and with the Order of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star. Its position near old roads suggests that it served not only nearby settlements, now vanished, but also people travelling and working through a landscape with a long mining tradition.

Practical Information

The ruins and land belong to the town of Loket and are managed by Loketské městské lesy. Ordinary visits on foot are free, but vehicle access into the municipal forests and organised events must be arranged with the manager. For weddings and similar events, the manager lists a fee of CZK 3,000 per day, including permission for three vehicles; additional vehicles are charged separately. This is an archaeological site in nature, so visitors should stay on visible access routes and never disturb the stones.
