Hamelika Lookout Tower

Rozhledna Hamelika · 353 01 Mariánské Lázně

Hamelika Lookout Tower stands on the hill of the same name south of central Mariánské Lázně. It is one of the oldest and most romantic lookout structures around the spa town. The stone tower was built by Friedrich Zickler in 1876 and is also known as Panorama, after a former café of the same name.

The tower is 20 metres high and stands at 722 metres above sea level. The climb to the top is short, with around one hundred narrow steps, but the tower is not barrier-free. From the gallery you can see Mariánské Lázně set in its green valley, the Slavkov Forest and, to the west, part of the Český les with Dyleň.

Trip to the Tower

Hamelika is an easy goal for a short walk from the spa centre or from the Krakonoš and Park Boheminium area. From the centre, paths lead through the spa forests and can be combined with other viewpoints, springs or the nature trail through the spa woods around Mariánské Lázně. A pleasant loop can start near Prelátův pramen, pass several historic places around the town and finish at Hamelika before returning downhill.

The tower has a romantic character and feels almost like an old stone ruin hidden in the forest. Mature trees partly limit the view in places, but the walk is still worthwhile for the atmosphere of the surrounding forest promenades. It fits well into a half-day outing with Boheminium, or as a shorter climb after time on the colonnade.

Practical Information

The lookout tower is freely accessible and has no admission fee. Access follows forest paths, so sturdier shoes are useful, especially after rain or in winter. The tower is not suitable for strollers or visitors with significantly reduced mobility. If arriving by car, it is usually more practical to park near Krakonoš or by connecting tourist routes and continue on foot.
