Saigerhütte Grünthal

Museum Saigerhütte Olbernhau · In der Hütte 10, 09526 Olbernhau, Germany

Saigerhütte Grünthal is a historic smelting complex in the Grünthal district of Olbernhau and one of the Ore Mountains' most important industrial heritage sites. Founded in 1537 by master miner Hans Leonhardt, it used the Saiger process to separate silver from raw copper. The surviving ensemble of production, administration, residential and utility buildings shows how a self-contained pre-industrial smelting community worked behind its defensive wall. Since 2019 it has formed part of the UNESCO Ore Mountains/Krušnohoří Mining Region.
