Seifert Via Ferrata in Nové Hamry

Seifertova ferrata v Nových Hamrech · Nové Hamry 13, 362 21 Nové Hamry

The Seifert Via Ferrata in Nové Hamry is a small protected climbing area almost directly behind Horský hotel Seifert. It was created by the hotel's owner as an active addition for guests and the public, with advice from Karlovy Vary climber Karel Vozáb.

The result is a compact Ore Mountains climbing stop above the Rolava valley: close to the village, easy to reach, and varied enough for beginners as well as more confident climbers who want a quick route before or after a hike.

Routes and difficulty

The ferrata has four routes of different difficulty:

RouteGradeLength
Aeasyabout 50 m
Bmoderateabout 55 m
Cmoderateabout 55 m
Dfor experienced climbersabout 60 m

Route diagrams and safety instructions are posted at the start. Choose the route realistically; the D line is short but not a beginner route.

Equipment

Via ferrata equipment is required:

  • via ferrata set with energy absorber
  • climbing harness
  • helmet
  • finger gloves are recommended

Hotel Seifert offers a small rental stock directly on site: three adult sets and one children's set. The listed rental price is 150 CZK per hour.

Access

The start is almost behind Horský hotel Seifert. From the parking area on the square in Nové Hamry, cross the small bridge over the Rolava River, then continue left for about 170 m.

You can arrive by car or by train; Nové Hamry works well as a public-transport base for a short mountain outing.

Practical information

The ferrata is open to the public and access is free. A donation box at the start helps with maintenance. Avoid the route in extreme weather, on icy rock or when snow makes the descent unsafe.
