Permanent Exhibition of the Karlovy Vary Museum

Muzeum Karlovy Vary · Muzeum Karlovy Vary

The permanent exhibition of the Karlovy Vary Museum is a clear indoor introduction to the city and the wider region. Created for the museum's 150th anniversary, it uses multimedia, hands-on elements and classic museum objects to connect the spa story with geology, crafts, architecture and cultural life.

It is a good first stop if you want to understand why Karlovy Vary grew around its springs, how spa treatment changed the town, and how the region's nature and industries shaped its identity.

Exhibition

Six halls on the first floor follow the history of Karlovy Vary itself. The route begins with Vřídlo / the Hot Spring, the natural phenomenon at the heart of the spa town, then moves through the founding of the spa, the development of spa treatment, the changing architecture of Karlovy Vary, social and cultural life, and the history of the international film festival.

The second floor broadens the view to the nature and history of the Karlovy Vary Region. It covers early history, ore mining, the traditions of pewter craft, glassmaking and porcelain production, and a final section devoted to 20th-century performing arts. Projections, recordings, touch screens, quizzes and tactile exhibits make the route accessible even for visitors who prefer to learn by doing.
