Marie Pomocná Adit

Štola Marie Pomocná · Mědník, 431 84 Měděnec

Marie Pomocná Adit beneath Mědník near Měděnec opens an authentic Ore Mountains mining underground to visitors. Together with Koňská jáma, it recalls more than five hundred years of extraction that shaped the landscape, settlements and daily life of the local mining town. Silver-bearing copper ore, chalcopyrite and pyrite were mined around Měděnec, and these workings now form part of the Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region, inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage in 2019.

The adit first opened to visitors in 1910, making it one of the early underground visitor attractions in the former Austria-Hungary. After a long break it reopened in July 2018. Today all visits are guided, with interpretation of ore mining and the demanding work of miners in cold, damp passages.
