Via Ferrata near Aš – Devil's Rocks

Via Ferrata near Aš – Devil's Rocks is a new protected climbing route on the almost forgotten Devil's Rocks between the village of Podhradí and Háj Hill. It sits in the wooded Aš region at the western edge of Czechia and works as a short adventure stop linked to the Háj sports complex, the Faust cycling trail and public transport from Podhradí.

Route

Ašské lesy lists the ferrata coordinates as 50°15'01.9"N 12°12'24.8"E, the altitude as 666 m, the total secured length as 80 m and the difficulty range as A, B and C. The route traverses and spirals up to the top of the highest rock; after a bridge section it descends to the neighbouring rock, where the climbing ends. Info Aš describes it as suitable for beginners and more advanced climbers, with an approximate visit time of 45 minutes.

Admission

The ferrata is presented as a freely accessible protected route without a reservation system. If you do not have your own equipment, the Háj sports complex offers rental of via ferrata sets and bikes; check the current price list for rental fees.

Practical Information

The Ašské lesy operating rules list the season from 1 April to 30 October. Required equipment includes a via ferrata set with energy absorber, harness, helmet, gloves, suitable footwear and other safety items stated in the operating rules. Children under 15 may climb only when accompanied by an adult. Entry is forbidden after dark, in rain, wet conditions, thunderstorms, fog, when snow or ice threatens, in strong wind or when the temperature is below +10 °C. Dogs are allowed in the forest and around the ferrata only on a leash; camping and making fires are prohibited.

A marked 2.5 km approach leads from the main car park of the Háj sports complex, following the same corridor as the purple Faust cycling trail. The alternative approach is from the Podhradí bus stop, about 1.5 km from the ferrata.
