Kozelka Viewpoint

Kozelka Viewpoint lies on a distinctive table mountain near Doubravice, north of Plzeň. Kozelka is an isolated volcanic hill that rises above the surrounding countryside and, thanks to its rocky edges, feels much more dramatic than its elevation might suggest. This entry marks the viewpoint part of the summit, with views over the Manětín area, forests, meadows and the rolling landscape between Manětín and Nečtiny.

The Kozelka Nature Reserve is known for its varied rock formations. The edge of the table mountain is lined with trachybasalt walls, towers, columns and scree slopes created by the weathering of a Tertiary lava sheet. Because of this relief, Kozelka feels like a small rock town: not one isolated crag, but a group of walls and spurs where you can walk, pause and look out from different viewpoints.

Trip to the Viewpoint

Kozelka is usually approached from Doubravice or Nová Doubravice. From the edge of the village, a path climbs toward the wooded summit and continues to the viewpoint sections. The trip is not long, but the terrain is forested and stony in places, so sturdy footwear is useful. The best experience is in dry weather, when it is safer to walk the edge path and stop by the rocky parts with views.

The place is interesting even without climbing. For hikers, Kozelka is mainly a combination of a short climb, a geological curiosity and a quiet view. Visitors who want to stay longer can explore more of the rock formations or combine the outing with the Manětín and Nečtiny area.

Practical Information

Kozelka is a protected area, so stay on paths, do not damage vegetation, do not light fires and keep noise down. On weekends, the most attractive spots may be busier because the site is popular with both hikers and climbers.
