Wildtiergehege am Pöhlberg

Wildtiergehege am Pöhlberg · Ernst-Roch-Straße, 09456 Annaberg-Buchholz, Germany

The Wildtiergehege am Pöhlberg is one of the most pleasant free-entry destinations for families on the Saxon side of the Erzgebirge. The enclosure lies in the middle of a recreation area directly above Annaberg-Buchholz and has been home to a varied animal collection since 1968 – lynx, raccoon, ponies, donkeys, pot-bellied pigs, mouflon, fallow deer and eagle owls.

Unlike a classical zoo, there are no turnstiles or ticket windows. The park is an open natural setting where the animal enclosures blend organically into the woodland. In winter the surrounding slopes become a popular sledding run, making a visit worthwhile year-round and easy to combine with a walk or a picnic.

What to See

Paddocks for fallow deer and mouflon, ponies and donkeys, pot-bellied pigs, goats, sheep, guinea pigs and ducks. Lynx and raccoon are the crowd favourites; eagle owls add a dramatic bird presence. Playgrounds and the sledding slope are part of the wider recreation area.
