Zoo Hof

Zoologischer Garten Hof · Hofe an der Saale, 95028 Hof, Germany

Zoo Hof in Hof an der Saale is the only zoological garden in the whole of Upper Franconia. That makes it all the more remarkable: a carefully developed institution with genuine zoological breadth. Since its founding in 1954 the collection has grown to over 1,600 animals from 100 species worldwide, with the zoo continuously modernising its enclosures around a focus on natural behaviour and education.

The stars are Asian gibbons with their unforgettable morning chorus, South American capuchin monkeys and coatis, North American raccoons and prairie dogs, European lynxes and African meerkats. The Savannah House lets visitors watch free-flying birds in a spacious tropical interior; the walk-through Australian aviary is one of the few places in Bavaria where you can watch parrots and cockatoos at close range without a barrier. The Night Animal House offers a glimpse into the lives of crepuscular creatures under simulated twilight – the perfect stop for older children.
